"What I do is use FSNavigator as a moving map, but it can be used as an autopilot as well, to control the aircraft in the cruise phase of the flight. If you have a flightplan loaded into FSNavigator and the correct aircraft profile, there will be an indication on the route when you need to start your descent (at the specified descent rate) Ideally you want to finish the flight under ILS control, so you can use FSNavigator to get you inserted into the ILS "cone" and then, once your NAV gauge (normally the VOR1) becomes active with the guidance lines you can switch to APProach mode and let the AP guide you down to near the end of the runway, when you can then take manual control for the landing. During the ILS-controlled descent you can control the speed using the flaps and gear and throttle until you are near to or at the landing speed. If you take care with this you should have no problems making a smooth landing. The trick is to be aware of what your touch-down speed should be and gradually reduce speed in plenty of time. This makes any minor changes in altitude far easier. Alastair" end quote
